‘The Lucky EP’ is the debut salvo from the weirdo brigade that is Middle England. Across five tracks this South London band/project/musical whatchamacallit whip up a sound that is by turns introspective and incendiary. Fugged lyrical musings skulk atop gnarled King Krule-esque guitar loops, monstrous rock hooks emerge from dubbed-out breakdowns, and chantalong choruses swell up out of instrumentals which pack enough cartoonish electro grizzle to give Gorillaz a run for their money.
